I call this poptart syndrome.

First the sugar kicks in, (and fake sugar too), and then the energy drops, so the adrenals try to help rescue the energy dump. Meanwhile chemicals are released that cause physical (often misinterpreted as mental) anxiety, hyperactivity, and loss of attention and focus. It happens between 9-9:30 at schools that serve poptarts for breakfast. Cereal proteins are no replacement for animal protein, causing zinc deficiency, says one study, which causes emotional instability. Once you know this, it doesn't mean you stay on track, but when you go off on a sugar binge, remember to make a mental note of the pattern and sequencing of this drop when the reaction kicks in. It may be recognized by excess chatter, (you need to talk to someone to get energy), or anger, which pumps the adrenals super fast, or the ever pervasive argument with someone who claims you didn't remember what they told you. Of course you didn't. Your body was fighting for homeostasis on these spikes and drops and that takes precedence of course over logic, reason. decision making and willpower.
